NEWS & UPDATES

Only One Lobby Day Left!
If you want to get in on the lobbying action (and I know you do), we have one lobby day remaining. One more chance to join the Young Dems in giving our lawmakers a piece of our mind (politely and constructively, of course). To make our last official outing of the session extra special (and because the Republicans put the session on hold instead of dealing with Peach Care immediately), we've moved the date to March 27, 9AM, also known as Crossover Day. On that day, all of the bills that have passed the House go over to the Senate for consideration and vice-versa. If they don't make it through Crossover, they're dead for the session. It's the legislative lightning round, and we'll be there to be part of it. We'll be gathering in an as-yet-undetermined legislative office to start the day, so stay tuned to this space for updates.

YDG Convention Registration Extended
The wonderful folks putting together the Young Democrats of Georgia State Convention By the Sea have extended the registration deadline through March 31, but don't go thinking that means you should wait. The discount room rate is still available at the lovely Buccaneer Beach Resort, but we no longer have a protected block of rooms. Once they're gone, they're gone. Convention will feature great guest speakers and a wide variety of panels and workshops to help maximize your democratic impact. Oh, and it's at the beach. That part is pretty sweet, too.

Lobby Days
Our first lobby day went off swimmingly on Saturday, February 10, in conjunction with Working Families Day. Our next lobby days will be February 28 and March 27, so be there!

2007 Young Democrats of Georgia Convention By the Sea
Convention time is drawing near! This year, YDG will be gathering at the Buccaneer Beach Resort on Jekyll Island, April 13 through 15. Co-sponsored by the Young Democrats of Atlanta, the convention will feature a wide range of panels and workshops across several tracks.

Congressman Lewis Rocked!     Civil Rights Leader John Lewis absolutely lit up the crowd at our second annual membership bash, Summertime Blue, on Wednesday August 30th at Vinocity in Midtown. Check out pictures in our Flickr stream and listen to him on the podcast (iTunes). Thanks again so much to our sponsors.

Ye Olde Lefty Shoppe is Open!     For those of you who just can't make it to a meeting or happy hour but have GOT to have an awesome YDAtl t-shirt or koozie the store is open. Do your small part to support our chapter just by looking good and drinking a frosty beverage!

$8000 Tax Credit for Home Buyers Extended!
The $8000 Dollar Tax credit for home buyers was set to expire in November 2009. The program is designed to help stimulate the housing market during the recession and to help creat jobs. Buyers looking for Charlotte Homes for sale can get an additional 1% Cash Back as a rebate from local real estate agents in an effort to get the housing market moving again. For every new home, 2.5 jobs are created in the local economy. The Tax Credit program has been extended to the Spring of 2010.
